"Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety" - Benjamin Franklin

Saturday, November 15, 2003

Thanks, to Bob, over at Pure Land Mountain (link on right) for this post.

A THOUGHT FOR VETERANS DAY

Having read and heard all the praises for all the troops who have been sent to do the impossible in Afghanistan and Iraq, so many of whom have made the ultimate sacrifice, let's add our praise for all the sons and daughters of the Washington elite responsible for the war, we mustn't ignore the sacrifices they're making: let's say thanks to the Bush children and family relatives over there in Tikrit, who are putting their lives on the front line in service to their country just as did the President himself back when he was a man of courage, and then there's the Cheney grandkids in the bulletmarked humvees in Nasiriyah, the Rumsfeld nephews there in the alleys of Afghanistan, and all the soldiers from the Powell, Perle and Wolfowitz families now under fire in Baghdad, and so many others from the patriotic Washington uppercrust, sent straight into harm's way on the other side of the world-- who can thank them enough for their noble sacrifice?

I saw this today and just HAD to share it.

Lol, now David, don't have a stroke on me.

Besides I have a theory. I don't think Democrats want to win in 2004. Why? Because a win in 2004 would mean in 2008 there would already be a Democrat in office and then their 'chosen' candidate would have to wait to run until 2012. Who is this 'chosen' candidate that they want so much that they are willing to loose in 2004?
Well let me explain it like this. The Democrats are doing their best to slander and abuse the sheit out of each other right now. There are so many of them and they are all saying the same thing. Just different speech writers. My guess is that Howard (the duck) Dean is going to be the Democratic nominee. He doesn't stand a chance against Bush and his good ole boys. The Democrats are secretly fine with that. The way they see it, by 2008 dubya's done. Stick a fork in him. Nobody is going to vote for Dick(less) Cheney. Who wants a President that could drop dead at any given minute. Of course they could stick Jeb up there as his VP, but by then the American people will have had their fill of the Bush legacy. So that makes things much more copacetic for the Dems. Now, guess who's going to be the Democratic nominee? I'd bet my last dollar, it will be none other than the one and only Hilliary Clinton . Yep, not only will we have our first woman President, but we will also have the first former President to ever be a first lady (oops I mean first man).
Okay peeps, take your best shot.

VETERANS DAY

Thank you Robert. Thank you David. Thank you Pat. Thank you Jeff. Thank you to all the Veterans that have served our country. Thank you to the men and women who are serving our country now. May God assign each of you a Guardian Angel. May the winds of war soon die down. May you soon be home again in the loving arms of your families, friends and countrymen.

Remember this is what your fighting for. So that all little boys and girls can one day enjoy the freedoms and liberty this little boy does.

Below is a post I made in my Journal .

"I have never been a big fan of Al Gore. I will admit upfront that I voted for him in 2000 and would probably do so again if he should run in 2004. I know what people say about him. He has always seemed like a cardboard figure to me. I could never quite get a grasp of the man within. But, then as now, he was the lesser of two evils. I believed and still do that he would do less damage than the alternative. If you think I'm nuts. Think again. I'm not. I keep up with current events. I know and see what is happening in the world around me. I listen to both sides and then I make what I believe it the wisest choice.
At a confrence in Washington DC yesterday, Al Gore said exactly what I have been trying to say for months now. What I don't understand is why more people just don't get it. Bit by bit the freedoms and liberty that this country was founded on are being chipped away. So many people are jumping on the band wagon. Like sheep being led to slaughter. Sometimes I just want to shout, "people don't you see what is happening". Instead all I get is a lot of retoric about how liberals are pussies, and how they kill babies, and they want to embrace homosexuals. Liberals have no morals, they aren't Christians, they hug trees. The worst thing is when people say, "if you don't like it here, leave...". Is this what our forefathers would have envisioned for our country? Love it or leave it?

If you have an open mind and you are willing to put your prejudice aside, you can read the article here: CNN

Here are some of the comments to that post.

From TW: The Patriot Act is scary. Just scary. I call myself a moderate because I want the government out of my pocketbook and my bedroom (not that there's anything much going on in either, what with the urchins and all!)

Two quotes from Benjamin Franklin I feel sum it all up:
"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."
"Whoever would overthrow the liberty of a nation must begin by subduing the freedom of speech."

............
From Don : If I remember correctly my dear Brenda (I think he meant 'Wanda"). It was the Clinton Admin. that imposed all the latest bans on weapons and hunters. I see the Democrats taking our freedoms in ways that you may not think of. But I suppose that with each set of eyes, comes a different view. Oh, by the way. I thought you might find it interesting to know that I'm pro-choice, and think that folks over 65, all meds, dental, anything medical should be on the govs tab. And not that Walmart medical treatment. The best care known to man.
...............
My response to Don..
Yes "I" liked Clinton. "I'd" vote for him again. Yes, "I" know he's a horses ass for husband. Yes, I know all the things he did that were repugnant. I also know that during his tenure as President this country saw the lowest unemployment rates, we had no national deficit (instead we had a surplus). We also enjoyed the best international relationships this country ever experienced. I had to learn to separate the good and the evil. Did the good out weigh the bad? It did for me. Each person has to make their own decision.
I do think that the level of hate and animosity I see now between Democrats and Repulicans seems to have started sometime during his Presidency. I also know that George W. said he would bring the country back together. Instead it has gotten progressively worse.
My biggest problem with this administration is not the war in Iraq, it is the slow, steady attack on our personal freedoms and liberty. When you give up one (freedom of speech) the others will swiftly follow. We are living in dangerous times, but way too many people don't see it. I am afraid by the time they do, it may be too late.

I also agree that the Democrats have done their share to impair our freedoms. I just think that if people don't wake up soon and see this Patriot Act for what it is, then we are in danger of losing that most precious of freedoms.
What we all need to realize is that you can only do so much to prevent terrorism. People seem to have completely forgotten that Sept 11th was not the first act of terrorism in this country. Timothy McVeigh was a terrorist as surely as those 19 Arabs were. Innocent lives were lost that day in Oklahoma City too. What about Colombine? Wasn't that terrorism? Just because those boys didn't have a political adgenda didn't make what they did any less horrific than what happened on Sept 11th. I know that what happened on Sept 11th was a horrible thing, but I don't think a single one of those people would have wanted their legacy to be that as a result of day we began a path that would lead us to something akin to communisim. Which is where we are headed. When you silence the media, when you tell them what they can film or what can be broadcast, or what can be printed in the newspapers, that's where your headed. When you attempt to silence the voice of the people (whether they be 'hollywood types' or whomever) that is where you are headed.
Every single one of us owes it to those have fought so valiantly for this country, to stand up and fight now. OUR country is at stake.
I may not agree with what you have to say, but I will defend your right to say it, to the death. Be it yours or mine. I will not go quietly into that good night.

I want to thank all of you who come here and voice your opinion. I belive with all my heart that the truth will be heard throught the voices of many.
