Dear Mr President
and all those politicians following your lead

I finally found one of those compassionate conservatives. Here's what he has to say to the President.

"Dear Mr. President
Remember me? I’m the one who stood by you through the 2000 election, 911, the invasion of Iraq, the capture of Sadam, the subsequent economic impact on our country and the 2004 election.

Let me start by saying I have been a political conservative my entire life. I was raised that way, and even when I was the only conservative in the room I proudly stayed that way. I have since been an conservative by choice. I don’t believe in an over-padded social welfare net, socialized medicine or high taxes. In fact, I would strongly support a flat tax. I don’t believe in powerful unions. I believe in tax-breaks to businesses, big and small. I believe in capital gains. I believe in free trade. I believe in a strong military. I believe in striking back when we are attacked. I believe in many of the things you believe in.

I have been one of your biggest supporters since you first ran for President, though I’ll admit I was originally rooting for John McCain. Sure, you’ve stumbled and mumbled and really in effect botched up the English language with virtually every utterance (fool me twice, I won’t get fooled again) and sure you choked on a pretzel and fell of your bike. But I never cared about that. None of those things impact a person’s ability to lead a country.

But now you have gone and done something that I simply can’t accept. Sure, by waging war in the Middle East you caused some to turn against you…But not me. I still believe we did the right thing, though I do feel we already did what we needed to do and should have been out of that cesspool a long time ago. What you did that I take issue with is quite frankly unconscionable. You abandoned your own people. You turned your back and chose to ‘discuss’ and ‘plan’ and ‘strategize’ when what you really needed to do was take action. Sometimes a little impulsive behavior can be a good thing. You needed to send in water, food, medicine and diapers. You needed to send in troops that unfortunately were too busy fighting a war and helping people that no longer want us there now that we’ve removed their dictator. They want us out so they can replace him with a new dictator of their choosing. Tomayto, tomato. Dictaytor, dictotter. Let’s call the whole thing off.

So, your own people are starving, dying of thirst, dying from the heat, dying for lack of medication, and killing each other out of anger and frustration. One man shot and killed his sister over a bag of rice. A BAG OF RICE!!!! Just think, if you’d just dropped a bag of rice out the window of AF1 when you flew over she’d still be alive. Instead, you just flew on by, sipping on a martini…I mean club soda, very carefully chewing a pretzel and continued to plan, strategize, mobilize and ultimately compromise, doing everything but utilize the resources of the most powerful, well equipped military in the world and the wealthiest, most generous country in the world.

You are finally sending in troops, but today is Thursday. I realize you don’t read the newspapers, but if you did and you looked at the dates up in the corners you’d know that the hurricane hit last weekend. What the hell have you been doing? Where are the troops? Where are the National Guard members? Where is the money? Where is the food? Where is the water? Where is the medicine? I can’t answer that either, but I can tell you where most of the refugees are…They are still there, and they are dying. Most recent death toll estimates in New Orleans alone is now in the thousands. By the way, that’s a number with three zero’s after it.

So get off your ass and do something besides talk. Stop asking Mr. Cheney if he thinks you’re being a good little President. Stop asking Laura how to pronounce 'Bonjour'. Get on the damn phone and order troops in now! Deliver supplies now! Establish something resembling law and order now! Deliver medicine now! Supply more transportation now! Open up the rails and airports and get those people out, and get more of the corps of engineers in now! But for the love of God DO SOMETHING!!!

You have no idea how much it breaks my heart to say this, but you shamed me. You have shamed everyone who has ever taken pride in being a conservative. Beyond that, you shamed this country. You have shamed each and every person impacted by this hurricane. The death of each person in New Orleans over the last couple of days is on your hands. So enjoy hunting for your Pontius Pilate Tupperware bowl to wash that stain away this time. You have completely embarrassed this country and its people, and if I had just one wish it would be that you would throw in the towel and call an election. Come on…Be a big boy…Just this once. There is absolutely no excuse for your complete disregard for the people of the Gulf Coast, and there is absolutely no excuse for your complete incompetence as a leader.
You Sir are a disgrace!!!!"

By George, I think he finally got it .

editors note: I must extend my apologies to Joe Scarborough and Bill O'Reilly. Joe, has left the comfort of his newsdesk and is currently 'in the war zone'. I watched stunned as Bill O'Reilly tore some asshat a new one on his program tonight. Questioning why oil companies can't forgo even as little as 20% of their profit until this crisis is over. Of course he got nothing but lip service about oil companies having to answer to their 'investors'. Bill basically said what I was thinking (paraphrasing) BULLSHIT!
Speaing of stunned, the exchange today, between Anderson Cooper and Mary Landieu (D. LA) was priceless tv. If you'd like to see for yourself you can check it out here...[ Cooper nails Landieu

Onward Christian Soldiers
where are all those good Christian leaders when you really need them

For months now I've heard the religious right bitch about how liberals hate Christians. "You people just hate us," they whine "You hate all that we stand for."

Well, folks guess what. Step back and take a look at yourselves right now, and you might begin to understand why. Our nation has suffered a blow of catastrophic proportions. There is no enemy to blame. No Osama's, no Muslims. The people of the Gulf Coast were helpless before the mightiest of foes. In all the billions of dollars that have gone toward 'homeland security' someone forgot to take into account that disasters most often come in the form of nature. The mealy mouth human terrorist pales in comparison to what Mother Nature can dish out.

Where are the Christians? Where is Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, Oral Roberts, Billy Graham, James Dobson? Where are the churches? Where are all those compassionate conservatives? Bill O'Reilly is a wealthy man, tell me Mr Bill-I'm-a-Christian O'Reilly, what have you done to help? Joe Scarborough where are you? And hey, all you Senator's and Congressmen, who claim to be the leaders of the party of higher morals and values, where are your values today? Have you left the comfort of your news desks, or offices, to offer aid and comfort to those devastated by this most unperfect storm? Anderson Cooper has. Brian Williams has. Tell me Vice-President Cheney, how many of your millions of dollars have you offered to donate to aid these victims? And what of the Bush family? What have they offered? Besides lip service from the president. Oh, and a 30 minute helicopter ride, to oversee the damage. Where are all these so called Christians?

While we're at it, lets ask where are all those countries that we've been bending over ass backwards to help? Will Iraq, or Thailand, or Israel, be sending any money our way? Will they be sending volunteers over to help us dig out, clean up and rebuild? Hello, world, it's America calling. We could use your help over here. For a change we may need a few dollars and some helping hands.

But you can bet, in matter of days you'll see the Hollywood types that everyone loves to hate, come out of the woodwork and start pitching in. Sean Penn, Rosie O'Donnell, if they aren't on site they'll be making huge donations. Maybe both. Yep, it will be the wussy liberals who show up, dig in , and show their compassion for their fellow man. You'll soon see Bill Clinton walking among those hit hardest. He'll climb out of that helicopter and get up close and personal with the people. Even though he's has open heart surgery in the past year. It won't keep him from doing what he can. You'll soon see the good people of Canada making their way to 'ground zero' and bringing their pocketbooks with them. Heck even President Chavez of Venezuela has said he wants to help. You remember him, the guy Pat Robertson thinks the US should 'take out' and I don't mean to dinner.

I don't hate Christians. I doubt any genuine, caring liberal does. But I do hate the people who climb up on their high horse, stake their claim to the high ground. Then when the chips are down and someone has to step up to the bat and take a hit, they are nowhere to be found. Instead they cower behind cameras, and podiums, and continue to give lip service. But what else can you expect from a bunch of chichenhawks and side-show opportunist?

Katrina
a new spin on terrorism

A mega terrorist struck the US Gulf coast this weekend. A very nasty lady named Katrina tore across south Florida, leaving 7 dead and millions of dollars in damage. But, she wasn't satified with her handiwork there, and proceeded to churn her way through the Gulf of Mexico. Early Monday morning she came knocking on the door of the Redneck Riveria. While she spared downtown Nawlins, she wreaked havoic on the outer parrishes slong with Mississippi and Alabama coasts. From what I've seen on television and what I've heard from friends living in the areas affected, it's bad. Real bad. There were reports (so far unsubstanciated) of one casino collapsing and crumbling into the Gulf. I've been to several of the casino's in Biloxi so I wouldn't be at all surprised to find this to be true.

As if oil prices weren't already bad enough. I can only imagine where they're headed now. Production on the rigs in the Gulf was shut down early Sunday morning, and they are just now beginning to call back the crews. We have quite a few people living here in Podunt that work on the rigs. Most of them will be heading out in the morning to return to work. The problem is normally they drive down to either Mobile or Port Fourchon and are helicoptered out to the rigs from there. Except right now, there is no getting to Port Fourchon. So who knows how long it will take to get those rigs back up and functioning at full speed?
We here in the WOAP household won't be taking any unnecessary trips anytime soon. In fact you may soon see a paypal link go up requesting donations. You can bet we'll soon be shopping for a vehicle that get's better gas milage than our Jeep GC (17-20MPG).
Heck, gas prices are so high even the oil rigs are trying to run away.

An oil drilling platform broke away from its moorings (it was in dock for repairs) and lodged under a bridge that carries U.S. Highway 98 over the Mobile River.

All that's left now is for the housing bubble to burst and we'll have a full blown economic crisis here in the land of plenty.
Sure puts a whole new spin on the term 'terrorist', doesn't it?
